Not all new cars will do badly out of the changes to the car tax rates that are going to be instated in 2017. In fact, if you buy a car that has high carbon dioxide emissions and costs less than £40,000, and you keep it for five years or more, you could actually be better off waiting until then to make your purchase - as we discussed in our collection of tips and tricks to beat the new car tax rates.
Here are 10 cars for which that's true at the moment - and we've ranked them in order of the savings you could make!
We start with the Porsche Boxster, in entry-level 2.7-litre manual form. You'll need to keep it for at least 7 years to see a benefit from waiting until 2017 to buy it, but if you do that, you'll save £40. That probably isn't worth the wait in itself - but as we've learned, the longer you keep a gas guzzler under the new system, the greater the savings will be, so after 10 years, that figure rises to a more worthwhile £415.
